Preventing spray drift
Chemical spray drift can damage neighboring crops, yards, gardens, and/or the landscaping of rural residents. Fortunately, crop damage or yard damage caused by drifting spray is preventable. Please consider the following tips when spraying crops this season:
- Check wind speed and direction. Wind causes spray droplets to move off target. Make certain wind conditions are acceptable for spraying.
- Always read the product label and use all drift-prevention measures listed.
- Use high-volume, low-pressure nozzles. Larger droplets drift less than smaller droplets. Make sure nozzles are designed for the product being applied.
- Keep your spray boon positioned as low as possible.
Remember, you are responsible for what you spray, and waiting to spray can cost less than spraying the wrong things.
